Summary

This is a paid summer internship within the Program Department. The department is responsible for all aspects of mission delivery, including managing referrals and eligibility determination, intake, wish discovery, wish determination, wish planning and wish execution. The position will touch all aspects of the program department’s work, from conducting welcome calls to newly eligible families, to assisting with wish granting operations, to helping with outreach efforts to increase the number of qualified referrals of children eligible for a wish.

This internship can either be hybrid remote/in-person at our office in downtown Oakland (preferred) or fully remote, with a time commitment of 24 hours per week June through August 2023. The internship begins the week of June 12, 2023.

This is a paid internship; compensation is $18/hour. College credit may be available depending on the requirements of your college or university.

Responsibilities

Wish Granting

  • Conducting welcome calls to newly eligible families
  • Entering data from wish paperwork into our database
  • Assisting all team members with the planning and execution of wish experiences including possibly research, communication, logistics, documentation and submitting financial records

Outreach

  • Evaluating and analyzing data of existing medical referral sources
  • Researching and compiling additional referral resources and contacts in more remote or underserved areas in our chapter’s region, with the goal of reaching every medically eligible child
  • Creating and maintaining database of potential and new referral sources
  • Assist in referral source stewardship and appreciation efforts
Requirements
  • Passion for and desire to contribute to the mission of Make-A-Wish
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential medical and personal information
  • PC proficient (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Salesforce, or other database experience preferred
  • Research and data analysis background preferred
