Summary

Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is a wish granting organization. Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our Chapter serves children from Monterey to the Oregon border west of Interstate 5. Each wish is unique and is the dream of a child who is critically ill, the resulting smiles speak volumes to the healing effects of a wish come true. Our vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child which will require increasing referrals, growth of volunteer base, expanded donations of in-kind and cash gifts and broadened communication across our entire territory.

The Senior Development & Alumni Associate supports the chapter’s Wish It Forward (WIF) program, the East Bay Regional Advisory Council (EBRAC), the Development Committee and other committees as needed. WIF is an initiative to grow an engaged alumni community with the strategic goals of increased revenue and higher engagement through volunteering, experience sharing, and event participation. This program creates a high impact, very-close-to-the-mission community who will commit their time, experiences, and financial support to expand our reach and foster continued growth. This is accomplished through an inclusive process to engage through feedback, regular communication, and 
network building.This position reports to the CDO.

The successful candidate will be an excellent project manager and team player who balances multiple tasks and priorities, working across all departments of the organization as required. The position requires excellent relationship building, fundraising experience and skills, strategic thinking and planning, good decision-making, proven experience successfully managing volunteer committees, outstanding communication skills, and a solid understanding of the multiple stakeholders in the Make-A-Wish community. The ideal candidate demonstrates cultural competency and is creative and thoughtful when interacting with diverse experiences to build relationships.

This position is required to work in the MAW office at least 2 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) as part of the hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

Wish It Forward Duties (50% of time) - Engage with alumni and families to generate revenue through Wish-it-Forward program.

  • Program Management
    • Work closely with the department/team leads in Individual Giving, Program, Volunteers, Events, and Marketing to coordinate resources, develop strategy, and implement the Alumni program throughout the wish granting process to achieve maximum effectiveness and results.
    • Work with the CDO to define yearly growth plans and goals, identify budgets, and identify KPIs for the WIF program
    • Work with Marketing team to identify wish alumni to serve as ambassadors of the program (i.e. sharing stories and experience)
    • Connect wish families to the departments where they wish to be engaged: Volunteer, Individual Giving, Events or Marketing (sharing their story through various means)
    • Maintain relationships with all Wish It Forward participants
    • Coordinate alumni and family involvement in internal, external, corporate, and community events, such as: Annual Events; Kids For Wish Kids/Wishmakers on campus; Alumni/Youth board support; Workplace giving
    • Oversee and train alumni volunteers to conduct post-wish calls with wish recipients and/or family and organize an efficient reporting process for key stakeholders.
    •  In partnership with Marketing Team, develop collateral and program communications ensuring that all work reflects positively on the Make-A-Wish brand, including social media and outreach sources
  • Council Management – Wish Kids Alums and Wish Parents
    • Work with council chairs to set meetings, schedules, and agendas
    • Prepare meeting support materials
    • Provide ongoing support to councils as members work on council goals
    • Assist with recruitment of new members

Additional Fundraising Duties

  • Manage a portfolio of 50 donors/prospects 
  • Support and/or attend cultivation and fundraising events, as needed
  • Personal Portfolio Management
    • Using moves management process to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors
    • Have a minimum of 10 significant contacts per month
    • Make at least 30 solicitations per year – including one-time, multi-year commitments, and estate gifts
    • Maintain a record of all contacts, meetings, and other important information in the Salesforce CRM
    • Add/remove prospects from portfolio as needed
    • Make stewardship phone calls/emails/handwritten cards to select donors with the goal of making personal contact to arrange meetings
  • Oversee Planned Giving –realized bequests, tracking and stewarding commitments, marketing of program
  • Support donors who would like to host a tribute campaign or that need language for an obituary
  • Manage grant program (3-5 annually) – writing, tracking deadlines, proposals, reports, prospecting, support Corporate 
    team with grant submissions 
  • Serve as chapter liaison with MAWA CDMP(direct mail program) and the liaison with the Car donation program
  • Manage offers of in-kind donations of tickets for wish families, wish alums, volunteers, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, and to reach overhead.
  • Ability to travel (drive/get access to transportation), dependent on organization needs, within the 17-county territory surrounding the office in Oakland, CA.
  • Available to work a varied schedule; evenings and weekends to ensure coverage at events, as needed.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time during events.
Education & Experience
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required •
  • 4 years’ relevant experience in an office environment, including nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Professional demeanor in person and on the phone, strong customer service skills
  • Council/committee management experience a plus 
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills necessary / Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team 
  • Interest in nonprofit work and belief in the value of community service • Access to personal transportation or ride share service
  • Some evening and weekend commitments required • Ideal candidate will be well organized and have excellent and prompt follow through
Chapter Benefits

Hourly hiring rate: $29.81-$31.25 based on skills and experience
Full-time, 40 hours a week/8 hour a day position, overtime eligible 
Fully benefited position with 100% premium paid for employee for sponsored plans
PTO (paid time off) starts at 17 days a year (accrued each pay period)
Paid holidays and other paid time off (i.e. employee appreciation days) – 22 days a yearff (i.e. employee appreciation days) – 22 days a year
