Summary

Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is a wish granting organization, creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our Chapter serves children from Monterey to the Oregon border.  Each wish is unique and is the dream of a child who is critically ill, the resulting smiles speak volumes to the healing effects of a wish come true. 

The Development department is responsible for raising over $1 million in corporate donations annually as an integral member of the fundraising team. The Corporate Development Manager is responsible for fundraising with existing corporate partners as well as developing and maintaining new corporate partnerships through many programs (event sponsors, general fundraising promotions, cause-related marketing, etc.)  The successful candidate we seek is passionate about our mission, comfortable speaking to small and large groups, is a team player as well as creative self-starter that will take the initiative to get the job done. This full-time, exempt position reporting to the Senior VP of Corporate & Events. 

This position is required to work in the Oakland office at least two days a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as part of the current hybrid work model guidelines.   Hybrid work guidelines are subject to change.  There may be additional days that an employee may be required to work in the office from time to time related to specific projects/events/meetings with advanced notice. 

Salary Range: $68,640 - $71,240 Annually 

Responsibilities

CORPORATE GIVING  

  • Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Development, identify, develop and execute annual plans focused on cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and initiatives of key corporate partnerships in support of stated yearly revenue and activity goals 

  • Prospect and cultivate new corporate partners 

  • Manage a tailored portfolio of 80+ assigned corporate donors at various stages of the donor cycle from identification through solicitation and stewardship, including Make-A-Wish America (MAWA) Corporate Alliances initiatives and regional partners 

  • Work collaboratively with Make-A-Wish America, Make-A-Wish International, and other chapters throughout the U.S. to execute cause marketing campaigns and regional corporate partnership initiatives 

  • Write and personally present cases for support and solicitation proposals to prospective partners and sponsors; write and facilitate terms of agreements; close gift agreements 

  • Manage application, submission, reporting and stewardship process for corporate grants 

  • Maintain a database of partnership opportunities using Salesforce: complete and file prompt contact reports and build information on corporate donors and prospects 

  • Manage and grow workplace giving campaigns and corporate matching gifts 

  • Work closely with other departments to steward and recognize partners 

  • Prospect and solicit, steward potential Corporate Sponsors for Gala and Walk 

  • Assist Events Team with fulfillment 

EVENT SPONSORSHIP 

  • Prospect and work with new potential sponsors for all events including YPAC, Walk, Gala 

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward existing sponsor Corporate Sponsors 

  • Assist events team with fulfillment as needed 

WORKPLACE GIVING 

  • Identify prospects and assist potential Corporate Partners, Alumni Wish Families, and other potential donors interested in building workplace giving programs  

Other Duties 

  • Manage a portfolio on individual giving donors and prospects (approx. 10%) 

  • As requested, provide support for advisory councils and board committees 

  • Other duties and responsibilities as updated 

Education & Experience
  • Strong understanding of development, corporate philanthropy and corporate sponsorship; sales experience a plus. 

  • BA or equivalent, minimum 4 years’ experience with face-to-face solicitation, ideally with nonprofit development experience 

  • Experience closing 5-6 figure corporate gifts or deals 

  • Professional demeanor in person and on the phone, strong customer service skills 

  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills necessary / Salesforce experience preferred 

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team 

  • Interest in nonprofit work and belief in the value of community service 

  • Valid CA Driver’s License for occasional travel within chapter territory 

  • Some evening and weekend commitments required, potentially overnight if needed
