Take Me Out to the (Backyard) Ballgame

Three-year-old Johnny has always loved playing baseball with his four older brothers in their backyard. However, when he was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two, his treatments caused fatigue, making it difficult for him to run and keep up when they played. Johnny wished to have a baseball clubhouse that pays homage to his favorite team, the Yankees, so that he can continue to be a part of the game.

On his wish day, Johnny could not contain his excitement as he walked into “Johnny Park”: the Yankee themed clubhouse in his backyard. The clubhouse is complete with a concession window where Johnny can hand out baseball game classics, including Cracker Jacks, Yankee sunglasses, and baseball bats. Johnny also has a bird’s eye view from the announcer’s box on the second floor where he can sit and call the game.

The clubhouse allows Johnny to continue to share the experience of playing baseball with his brothers despite the physical limitations that he may face. Most importantly, it is also a space where he and his brothers can spend time together.
