Lucy's Wish
Lucy's Runway Debut
Lucy is a fabulous fashionista with a penchant for glam! “Whether with her sisters, by herself, or with her friends, Lucy has always loved putting on a show. Playing dress up while wearing mom’s high heels and accessorizing is always a must on the imagined runway down the hallway of our home,” said Lucy’s mom. When Make-A-Wish Colorado entered Lucy’s life, she had one thing on her mind: she wished to be in a fancy fashion show and walk down the runway!
To prepare for her big debut at Denver Fashion Week, Lucy had plenty of practice. She began her wish journey as the featured wish kid for Mountain Vista High School in their annual Wish Week, a week-long fundraising event benefiting Make-A-Wish Colorado. The high school went above and beyond to make sure Lucy felt fabulous, even setting up a runway in the gym during their all-school assembly for Lucy to strut down with her sisters and friends! The crowd cheering her name and the flashing lights of the cameras made Lucy feel like an absolute star.
All models need glam shots – and Lucy was no exception! She had a fashion photo shoot with local photographers, hair and makeup artists, and even a modeling coach to help her feel confident and cool while posing! Lucy loved this experience, especially trying on multiple outfits – or ‘looks’ as they’re called in the fashion world – and perfecting her poses. The coach was so impressed with Lucy’s natural ability that he insisted she sign with a modeling agency!
Lucy’s debut on the Denver Fashion Week runway was the talk of the town. She was interviewed by 303 Magazine and Channel 9 News about her wish! “Ever since I was little, I loved dressing up,” Lucy explained to the news anchor. “Sometimes my little sister and I will do a fashion show together at home.” This love inspired her wish, and she couldn’t wait to finally hit the runway!
The glitz and glam of Denver Fashion Week was just what Lucy had imagined when she wished to be in a fashion show. She had her hair and makeup done by professional beauticians and the dress she was given to wear was stunning! It was a gorgeous light pink gown with a matching capelet. Her favorite part of her ensemble was the sparkly crown placed on top of her head. She looked like a fashion princess!
The lights dimmed and the music blasted. The runway was set for Lucy’s wish to come true! She strutted down the runway, flanked by her family, friends and high school students from Mountain Vista who came to cheer her on. She floated by and paused momentarily to strike a pose in front of the photographers before spinning around the corner and finishing her walk. It was a moment she and her family will never forget!
