Evan’s journey with leukemia began when his mother discovered broken blood vessels all over his body.
After diagnosis, he spent five months in the hospital enduring treatments that were sometimes daunting. Evan’s favorite athlete is WWE Superstar John Cena and Evan loves repeating John’s famous lines like “You can’t see me!” and “If you want some, come get some!” No one was surprised when Evan decided his one true wish would be to meet John Cena and “give him a big hug.” When wish day arrived, Evan and family traveled via limousine to the Times Union Center in Albany where John Cena was scheduled to battle Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns during WWE Live. Prior to the match, Evan went backstage to meet “The Champ” in person and presented him with a handwritten note and drawings. John autographed merchandise for Evan then posed for photos before starting the show, which Evan got to enjoy with his family. Evan went home with some very special items, including a John Cena hat and wristbands. “Make-A-Wish went above and beyond,” said Evan’s mom, Theresa. “The whole wish was more than we expected.” While Evan said his wish was “epic,” we think the best part is his health. One year after his last chemotherapy treatment, Evan remains in remission.
