Zac's nurses inspire his wish to go to nursing school
In fact, the relationships Zac developed with those who cared for him is what motivated him to request a very specific wish.
“I wished for tuition to go to nursing school as I hope to work in a pediatric oncology unit so I can make a difference for other kids like me," said Zac.
“Going through cancer made Zac much more focused on his goals and what’s important to him,” said his mom, Stephanie. “Zac works so hard and he’s very dedicated to his studies, so the financial assistance gives us so much peace of mind as we’re still paying back his medical costs.”
"Knowing Zac’s wish was going to be granted has been a bright spot in his life and the beginning of him moving into what he feels is his purpose," said Stephanie. “It’s been fun to see him get excited about next semester and be able to go to his labs in-person.”
Zac also believes his wish will give him the chance to have a more immersive college experience.
“I missed out on a lot of things in high school because of treatment and last year my classes were online because of the pandemic,” said Zac. “My wish will allow me to have more opportunities and participate in activities in college that I never considered before.”
Since finishing his cancer treatments in January 2021, Zac is doing well and feeling healthy. His family is grateful to his nurses for the support they’ve provided over the past three years.
“When your child is going through something like this, you really get to know your nurses and it feels like they’re your second family,” said Stephanie.
