Nick Ghiz supports Arizona wish kids as a donor and volunteer

Since Nick Ghiz, 34, teamed up with Make-A-Wish Arizona five years ago, he’s granted numerous wishes in multiple ways.
First, as a volunteer directly granting wishes. Second, purchasing or procuring sponsored specific items for wish kids and their families. And third, by being the connector to new vendors or supportive companies.

“It’s important for me to have something tangible to do when I’m working with different organizations so I know exactly where my financial resources are going,” said Nick, who recently donated dog food for one year as a part of 6-year-old Charlotte’s wish to have a Pomeranian puppy.
Nick, an Arizona native, has also used his contacts to introduce Make-A-Wish Arizona to needed vendors in the community.
“I work in the construction industry and it’s allowed me to give back when someone is in need of a specific service,” he continued.
“Networking is very important for me as I’ve gotten older and I think it’s important for these kids to see that people really do care and we want to be part of this journey with them."
The whole concept of Make-A-Wish is extremely cool to be able to grant a wish selected by the child and fitting their personality. I’m happy to be a part of it.

Nick also has observed how Make-A-Wish Arizona puts things into perspective for his own life.
“The mind is so powerful. Having good things happen to you can possibly change the trajectory of your life, and for a child going through a serious illness, a wish gives them hope to keep fighting.”
“I’ve learned something different from each wish I’ve been a part of,” he continued. “Some have been tougher than others, and witnessing what some of these kids go through is extremely grounding. Every time a wish is granted, it makes me want to give back even more. It’s been a special experience from the beginning.”
