Meet Amy Wilson: Bringing Joy to Wish Kids, One Wish at a Time

As a mother of a wish kid, Amy Wilson’s experience as a Make-A-Wish volunteer is deeply personal.

When her son Jaxon was diagnosed with leukemia, he wished for a backyard playset—a gift that brought immense joy during a challenging year. Three years later, Jaxon’s wish continues to make an impact, transforming not only his life but also igniting Amy’s passion for bringing hope to other children facing critical illnesses.

Now a dedicated wish granter, Amy has granted three wishes and is working on three more.

One of her favorite memories involved granting a wish for a child at Phoenix Children’s who dreamed of going to Hawaii. “It hit close to home because he had the same diagnosis as Jaxon and was around the same age,” she explains. “It reminded me of our journey and the importance of a wish.”

Having experienced both sides—first as a parent of a wish child and now as a wish granter—Amy strives to be the best volunteer she can be. She recalls the dedication of her fellow wish granter, Jose Durazo, who went above and beyond to set up Jaxon’s playset on his Wish Day.

“His dedication showed me just how big of an impact volunteers have,” she shares.

Every volunteer really does care.

Wish Granter since 2023

When she’s not volunteering with Make-A-Wish Arizona or other charities, Amy is actively involved in pageantry, proudly holding the title of Mrs. Glendale.

As Mrs. Glendale, Amy proudly uses her platform to advocate for Make-A-Wish, emphasizing the importance of granting wishes. “Any chance I get, I want to highlight the significance of making wishes come true,” she states.

For those considering volunteering, Amy encourages you wholeheartedly to take that first step.

It’s an amazing experience that will change your life. If you’re nervous, you’re not alone—the staff at Make-A-Wish is there to guide you, and other volunteers are eager to help.

“Sign up, go through training, and find someone you connect with to work on a wish together. You’ll never be alone, and it’s truly transformative.”

If Amy could have a wish of her own, it would be to visit Ireland.
