Unlike any 6-year-old, sometime Luis has to stop his game to do special breathing treatments or else he could put his life in danger.
“Luis was born with a malformation that affects his breathing and eating abilities,” said his mom Elizabeth. “He has had to have many surgeries but thankfully, each one has made his life a little easier.”
Doctors have shared that Luis will not be able to live a life like the other kids his age, but that doesn’t not stop Luis. He continues to want to be like the other kids, including being obsessed with video games.
“When a nurse at the hospital referred us to Make-A-Wish Arizona I was so happy because I’ve heard of the wonderful things this organization does for kids who are suffering with critical illnesses; but I never thought my Luis would be one of those kids!” said Elizabeth, Luis’s mom.
Luis can only attend school twice a week to keep him healthy and the current pandemic means even more time isolated from friends, family and the possibility of the virus.
"He knew right away what his wish would be – a Nintendo, a television and some toys to keep himself entertained while at home,” said Elizabeth.
“Before his wish, Luis would sit at home bored, but since he found out about his wish, his attitude changed,” she continued. “Luis seemed happier and he kept counting down the days to receive his Nintendo. Now, thanks to Make-A-Wish, he plays with his video games, watches movies and spends hours playing with his sensory table.”
“We are thankful with Make-A-Wish and everyone involved, I know that you have helped so many kids with critical conditions and I am eternally thankful that Luis was one of them,” stated Elizabeth.
