For donors John and Yoon Chilton, giving back runs in the family
John and Yoon Chilton have always felt motivated to give back, but the impact of a wish on the kids and families in their community is what inspires them to continue to do more.
“It seems like the last wish is always my favorite,” said John, who supports specific needs for wishes with the West Valley Mavericks Foundation and recently delivered a golf cart for wish kid Ethan.
“Seeing the pure joy not only on his face but from his entire family was very fulfilling,” John continued. “It’s like the icing on the cake to watch a wish and everything we’re working toward come to fruition.”

Yoon, who has been a member of the Make-A-Wish Arizona Wishmakers Council since it formed in 2018, has been instrumental in raising funds for Make-A-Wish with an annual event, Love and Wishes, held at her home on Valentine’s Day.
“It’s always busy when you go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day and we wanted to create an event where you can enjoy food and wine pairings with friends and support a great cause at the same time,” said Yoon.
In the past three years, the event has raised $56,000 benefiting Make-A-Wish Arizona to grant life-changing wishes for more than five Arizona kids with critical illnesses.
But Yoon believes their involvement is just a small part of the success.
“Whether it’s for wishes or events, there are so many people who do things behind the scenes and we really appreciate the help from everyone involved to make it happen, especially Brandon and Jamie Luna,” continued Yoon.
Even with their contributions, John and Yoon know there are still hundreds of wishes that need to be granted and they have “recruited” the next generation for support.
“We have two kids, ages 5 and 8, and we try to teach them about the importance of charity and giving back,” said Yoon. “Our family participated in the Walk For Wishes a few years ago and they joined us for Ethan’s wish and they were so excited to be a part of it.”
A wish boosts morale and hope for everyone involved and we are incredibly blessed that this is one way we can continue to support our local community.
