Coyotes Cruisers brings cars and wishes together for 21 years
“My goal for my first car show was to help a 5-year-old child get a bone marrow transplant,” said Bill. “I raised $9,000 in two days and became involved with Make-A-Wish Arizona years later when a friend mentioned the organization.”
That was 21 years ago. Since then, Bill has hosted the fundraising event “Cruisin’ Under the Stars” with the support of his family and close friends.
“I think every child should at least experience one thing that’s truly positive in their life and, after hearing about Chris’ wish to be a DPS officer, I wanted to help make more wishes happen.”
The car show typically brings in 600 enthusiasts, who help raise money for Make-A-Wish by bidding on big item donations and a 50/50 raffle.
“People want to support the cause and almost half of the time, whoever wins the raffle donates the money right back to Make-A-Wish!” he continued.
It’s this sense of community that motivates Bill to continue giving back, and he’s began to introduce his passion to the next generation as well.
“We’ve had the same couple work the gate for 12 years and Amanda (who was still in her mother’s stomach for our first event) is now married with a child of her own and plans to take over the event when I retire,” said Bill.
“I’m lucky to have four daughters and now six great-grandkids. I’ve brought my family to the Wish House for volunteer training and try get them involved in different roles for the event so they understand the feeling you get from giving back and helping others.”
