Brittany Williams transforms lives as a volunteer

When Brittany Williams started working for the finance team at Make-A-Wish America, she felt a sense of fulfillment in knowing that her career was helping to make a difference.

“We have mission moments that feature a wish and how it impacts a child, but you only feel so connecting by watching videos or hearing stories,” said Brittany. “I overheard people talking about volunteering and knew I wanted to become more involved in granting these wishes.”

Brittany has granted eight wishes as a volunteer, where she’s experienced a whole new side of Make-A-Wish.

“My first wish kid was a little girl who traveled to Walt Disney World. I really connected with her family and learned more of her story and why she’s dreamed of going there for so long,” she said.

“There is something special about talking to kids when they’re imagining their wish because they are so innocent,” she continued. “Even though I’ve granted several Disney wishes, I love how each of wish is personal to that child, like getting to wear a pretty pink dress in front of the castle to feel like a princess.”

One thing Brittany didn’t expect from volunteering is how much a wish can affect everyone involved.

It will change your life in a way that people don’t realize. It has changed my life.

“It’s emotional watching kids open up during discovery visits and then being there at the airport to see the wish through and send them off,” she continued. “Once you work directly with families and you witness how much of a difference you’re making in their lives, you become part of that wish.”

Brittany’s commitment to volunteering continues to grow, as she is currently working with nine kids turn their wishes into reality.

“A wish something that will always be remembered,” said Brittany.

“I still keep in touch with some families since granting their wish and it’s great to talk about how much the experience brought them together.”

If Brittany could have a wish, she would go kayaking with whales in Antarctica.
