Emily hosted a lemonade stand and garage sale to raise money for wish kids.

10-year-old hosts lemonade stand and garage sale to fund future wishes

When Emily, 10, realized that she had to downsize her room for her family’s new house, she came up with an idea.

“I wanted to find an organization for kids that would make kids happy so I could donate and I found Make-A-Wish Arizona on YouTube,” said Emily. “I watched a bunch of videos and the kids looked so happy so I decided to help out.”

Emily created a plan – she would host a garage sale and lemonade stand to raise some funds. But her idea didn’t stop there.

“I called friends and family to see if they had things they wanted to get rid of and I had a bunch of stuff that I could sell,” said the brilliant entrepreneur. “And then I got a bunch of signs from Make-A-Wish, I made some of my own signs and set a goal and I was ready to go.”

Emily also shared that she had help from her family, including her mom who helped her set up the garage sale and her dad who sent out emails promoting the garage sale and the fact that 100 percent of the proceeds who go to help grant future wishes.

Her goal was $1,000 and she beat that by $20, raising a total of $1,020!

“When I reached over my goal, I knew I could help more kids so I was excited,” said Emily. “I hope that the kids know that people are out there and want to help to make their wishes come true. When people saw the Make-A-Wish sign, they didn’t even barter – sometimes they even said to keep the change!”

Do you have an upcoming birthday, anniversary or special occasion? Ask for donations in lieu of gifts or create your own fundraiser like Emily to help grant wishes!

Emily was excited her first fundraiser was a success and looks forward to seeing more videos of wishes that are helping kids forget their illness.

If I had a wish, it would be for kids to not have to get sick enough to need a wish. But I’m glad I could help right now.
