Reed's Wish of a Play House Fulfilled

Reed's Wish

While most toddlers were playing hide-and-seek, building dirt sandcastles or chasing friends through the park, Reed was fighting cancer.

Diagnosed at the age of two, Reed and his family spent nine months in Denver fighting his illness. His environment had to be strictly controlled to avoid COVID and other risks, which excluded him from social interactions typically considered routine for most two-year-olds. One of the toughest restrictions was not being able to use a nearby playhouse, even though it seemed like the perfect place to escape the harsh reality he faced daily. As they had so often in his short lifespan, Reed’s parents had to keep him away.

They mourned the activity, friends and memories Reed missed through his treatment, and they longed for a way to make up for some of the play time and childhood he lost. Thanks to supporters like you, Make-A-Wish was able to deliver with a picturesque playhouse that went well beyond the family’s expectations, and as far as Reed is concerned, is way better than the one in Denver.

Now, Reed has a space of his very own, which like his months-long stay in the Denver hospital, few three-year-olds can claim. This special little structure is the talk of his neighborhood, and as a new proud (play) home owner and cancer survivor, it’s where Reed will build new memories with friends and family for years to come.
