Hudson's Wish
Keeping the wheels turning!
Kids grow at the speed of light, and after Hudson’s wish for a Ferla Cargo Bike was granted, he too can journey at the speed of light with his family in tow! As a spunky 7-year-old boy from Sheridan, Hudson loves spending time outdoors, going for walks and bike rides. After quickly outgrowing several standard issue mobility aids available in stores, Hudson’s wish for a cargo bike was born.
Before even entering the world, Hudson’s parents found out he had Pitt-Hopkins syndrome and a chromosome microdeletion on his 18th chromosome, called 18q-. These conditions greatly impact his mobility and development; however, when it came time to choose a wish through Make-A-Wish Wyoming, the Ferla Cargo Bike was the perfect solution. The Cargo Bike even features cargo seating large enough for Hudson and his two siblings to enjoy bike rides together with their parents.
“This was a huge opportunity for Hudson, and it means a lot to our family. I know it will lift Hudson’s spirit being able to spend time as a family, out in our community, and just being able to be outside enjoying his bike,” says Hudson’s mom, Casie.
Hudson and his parents decided on the Ferla Cargo bike for his wish for several reasons, but mainly to be able to expand their horizons when it comes to getting out and being active as a family. They love that the bike allows Hudson and his siblings to be outside enjoying movement and adventure together.
“Hudson loves being outside. We were looking for an option for him to be able to be outdoors more now that he is outgrowing other adaptable options. He’s a super happy boy and finds joy in so many things, especially riding a bike outside,” says Casie.
Hudson’s condition presents several challenges that make movement and activity difficult. Pitt-Hopkins syndrome results in delayed motor skills and developmental issues, while 18q- results in both epilepsy and mobility issues. Finding a way to get him out in their community was a major goal for Hudson’s parents. As Hudson grows, the bike will be able to support him and provide a way for him to get out and about. The cargo seating is comfortable and offers an alternative way for Hudson to get around that’s different than his usual mobility methods.
“This bike will open up more to what Hudson can do. It will help his motor skills, communication, and just experiencing more outdoors. Hudson’s wish is a big deal to our entire family. This bike expands his ability to do more which allows us to get out more as a family. Hudson can grow with this bike and therefore provide lifelong mobility for him,” says Hudson’s dad, Carsten.
