Hisham's Wish

It has been a battle for two years with numerous hospital visits and countless treatments. During his difficult treatments, Hisham was able to dream about his wish. “His wish gave him hope, something to look forward to. He didn’t have to think about his treatments and hospital visits,” said Tahira, Hisham’s mother. Things are finally looking up for Hisham. The leukemia is in remission and Hisham finished his most re-cent round of intravenous chemotherapy in late January. Hisham is now back in school with his friends and could not be happier. “He hasn’t been in school so much because of Covid and medical treatments, but now he has some normalcy. He is now making friends and that is what was needed for him to have a normal life. He has always been social, always happy. He is really caring toward everyone and makes friends easily,” said Tahira.

After some consideration, Hisham decided he wanted his own space and a wish that will last for years to come. He wished for his very own playhouse bat cave. “Every day he sees it and wants to go hang out in it. It gives him his own place, his own rules, his own atmosphere,” said Tahira. Hisham used to make forts in their living room and call them his bat cave. He would act like he was fighting and even talk as though he were Batman. He would make his father play the Joker, so he had someone to battle. Now with his own bat cave, Hisham loves to have friends over to play. He wants to have a Nerf gun wall and hang Batman posters to personalize the space even more.

“We see a wish as excitement and joy that was brought to an entire family. Seeing him happy made everyone happy. It made those last two years of seclusion better. We can’t describe the joy. It doesn’t make up for that time, but it made him so happy,” Tahira said.
