Regional Development Officer – Hampton Roads

Summary

Reports To: Director of Development

The Regional Development Officer is responsible for building long term relationships and engaging donors in our mission in the assigned region along with leading assigned development initiatives. This includes seeking and establishing new relationships, stewarding and increasing support from current donors, and meeting or exceeding annual revenue goals. 

Location: This is a remote position. The ideal candidate will reside in Hampton Roads.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively implement a comprehensive fundraising plan in assigned region. Accountable for driving donation growth through lead generation and developing broad-based funding sources to ensure a continuing stable financial base for the mission and statewide operations.
  • Responsible for reaching and securing individual, corporate and foundation relationships and attaining income goals.
  • Oversee Make-A-Wish fundraising initiatives and programs including Adopt-A-Wish, Kids For Wish Kids, internal and external events, grants, and corporate partnerships.
  • Work closely with CEO and Director of Development to strengthen and expand donor base, including major gifts and planned giving campaigns.
  • Build leadership opportunities and new revenue streams by identifying and cultivating leadership volunteers including potential committee and board members.
  • Successfully implement and execute a special event in assigned region to maximize outcomes and value to donors, volunteers, and the organization.
  • Manage, execute and analyze chapter direct mail campaigns. Create strategic and customized individual solicitation proposals for donors in assigned region.
  • Collaborate with development team to plan, guide and direct annual fund and monthly donor strategies to secure new gifts from prospects as well as renew and upgrade gifts from previous donors.
  • Manage an active portfolio of donors, securing gifts and visits with donors.
  • Lead chapter wish family alumni initiative.
  • Represent the organization at events, promotions and speaking engagements as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the marketing and communications staff, promote positive public relations to the community, ensuring the chapter has a visible public image through media contacts. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing the strategic fundraising plan and revenue budget.
  • Maintain donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America on best practices and resources.
  • Manage procedures and practices to meet chapter ROI and revenue goals.
  • Position requires some travel, evening and weekend work hours.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
  • BS/BA or comparable experience required.
  • Requires three to five years of experience in a similar role.
  • Volunteer management and recruitment experience preferred.
Education & Experience
  • Requires excellent project management, customer service, interpersonal skills, writing and presentation skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing a donor portfolio.
  • Highly professional and able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, community groups and professional consultants.
  • High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a remote setting while managing multiple priorities, and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel, and Salesforce database management software.
