The Development Officer is responsible for building long term relationships with individuals and engaging donors in our mission. This includes seeking and establishing new relationships, stewarding, and increasing support from current donors, and meeting or exceeding annual revenue goals. Proactively implement a comprehensive fundraising plan. Accountable for driving donation growth through lead generation, KPI’s and developing broad-based funding sources to ensure a continuing stable financial base for the mission and chapter operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and secure individual, corporate and foundation relationships and attain income goals.
  • Manage Make-A-Wish fundraising initiatives including major gifts, individual giving, grants, Evening of Wishes, Adopt-A-Wish, External Events and Corporate Partnerships.
  • Work closely with CEO and Director of Development to strengthen and expand donor base and assist in the development of major gifts and planned giving campaigns, implementing moves management.
  • Build leadership opportunities and new revenue streams managing fundraising volunteers and committees to achieve goals.
  • Create strategic and customized individual solicitation proposals for donors.
  • Collaborate with development team to help plan, guide and direct annual fund strategies to secure new gifts from prospects as well as renew and upgrade gifts from previous donors.
  • Manage an active portfolio of donors, using a moves management plan to secure gifts to include visiting with donors throughout the chapter territory.
  • Represent the organization at events, promotions and speaking engagements as appropriate. Promote positive public relations in the community, ensuring the chapter has a visible public image through community outreach.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the strategic fundraising plan and revenue budget.
  • Maintain donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America on best practices, resources and adhere to national governing policies and chapter policies and procedures.
  • Manage procedures and practices to meet chapter ROI and revenue goals.
Fundraising Campaigns:
  • Trailblaze Challenge fundraising campaign. Successfully implement and execute Trailblaze Challenge to maximize outcomes and value to donors, volunteers, and the organization.
    • Lead, promote and manage the Trailblaze Challenge events in partnership with volunteer committee to ensure the events are strategic, align with best practices, and provide excellent ROI for chapter.
    • Implement strategy to recruit participants and sponsors to increase revenue through individual gifts and special event sponsorships.
    • In partnership with chapter staff, lead revenue strategies to achieve stated goals for annually produced internal event and peer to peer fundraising campaign.
Development & Stewardship
  • Manage and maintain an active portfolio of individual, corporate, foundation, and organization donors and prospects for research, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship.
  • Serve as a point person for Evening of Wishes receptions, cultivation visits and designated donor events. Ensure accurate recording and acknowledgement of gifts within defined standards and meeting established metrics.
  • Coordinate donor recognition as needed, including preparation of materials.
  • Support Development Team on prospect screening sessions.
  • Participate in community and networking opportunities to prospect potential new donors and partners.
Other Development Responsibilities
  • Position requires some travel, evening and weekend work hours.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Excellent project management, customer service, interpersonal skills, writing and presentation skills, and attention to detail.
  • Highly professional and able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, community groups and professional consultants.
  • High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and is self-motivated.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Salesforce CRM.

Education & Experience
  • BS/BA or comparable experience required.
  • Three to five years of experience in a similar role is required.
