Marissa Steps into the Spotlight

Marissa eagerly looked forward to stepping into the glamorous life of a celebrity. Since receiving her diagnosis, Marissa has wanted nothing more than to disconnect from her reality of regular doctor’s visits and just feel on top of the world again.

At 11 years old, Marissa was diagnosed with Gorham-Stout disease, also known as “vanishing bone disease.” Having grown up as a competitive cheerleader, Marissa’s life was turned upside down when her days at the gym were reduced to zero. Marissa’s condition forced her to be homebound and in the blink of an eye, her cheerleading career was over. Despite these challenges, Marissa’s tenacity and confidence never faltered.

Marissa’s wish day began with an exciting send-off at The Wishing Place, where she was surprised with VIP Rolls-Royce car service, courtesy of Resorts World Las Vegas, and whisked away to the luxurious resort along with her mom, Tonia, and best friend, Melissa. Marissa was greeted with a red-carpet arrival complete with a welcome message shown on the resort’s 100,000-square-foot LED screen, cheering staff members, and even a few paparazzi snapping photos as she entered.

After settling into her luxe hotel suite located in the renowned Crockfords Las Vegas, Marissa set off on a four-day ultra-VIP experience. Her itinerary included a full day of pampering at AWANA Spa & Wellness, private shopping experience at Twila True Fine Jewelry & Watches, and an exclusive celebrity model photoshoot. What Marissa enjoyed the most, however, was having her mom and best friend by her side through it all.

“We’re so appreciative of Venafi, Resorts World Las Vegas, and Make-A-Wish for making this all happen for Marissa—it means the world to us,” said wish mom Tonia. “This experience was just amazing. I never thought any of this could happen.”

Marissa does not let her diagnosis damper her outlook on life. With so many years ahead of her, Marissa’s goal is to find a cure for her rare bone disorder.
