Nathan's Perfect Performance

Eleven-year-old Nathan has battled a nervous system disorder most of his life, undergoing nearly 20 procedures.

Through all his health challenges, Nathan has turned to music as a healing therapy and a way to overcome pre- and post-procedure anxiety. He is in his church choir, sings in several languages and loves Andrea Bocelli. Nathan has always believed that he has a special talent to sing and was destined to perform in front of large audiences. His wish was to be a singer.

In the weeks leading up to his wish, Nathan attended music camp, shopped for performance outfits, and rehearsed. On the day of his premiere, he arrived at The Colony Theatre in Miami Beach via limousine with a police escort, only to be greeted with his name on the marquee. Dozens of fans screamed his name and the paparazzi took photos as he walked the red carpet with bodyguards by his side.

“I can barely breathe right now…Wow! Wow! Wow! This is amazing.”

More than 100 people including family, friends and his Make-A-Wish family watched Nathan’s first-ever headlining performance. He sang some of his favorite songs including a duet with his sister. Intermission was the perfect time for Nathan to change his wardrobe, snack, and give an interview to the media. After a standing ovation, Nathan returned to the stage for an encore, delighting the crowd. Nathan was honored to receive the key to the city from Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez and the Make-A-Wish Idol trophy from Make-A-Wish Southern Florida president Norm Wedderburn. His superstar night ended with Nathan signing autographs for all his fans.

His mother said, “I am missing the words to fully express my gratitude toward Make-A-Wish for what they have done for my son. His wish exceeded my expectations. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
