Kaydence Hits a Home Run

Battling a nervous system disorder all her life, 16-year-old Kaydence lives and breathes softball. Her greatest wish was inspired by her favorite sport – to meet the U.S. Women’s National Softball Team.

Kaydence and her family travelled from Kansas to Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach to make her wish a reality. She couldn’t have been more thrilled to attend a two-day U.S. Women’s Fast Pitch Camp with Team USA hopefuls.

“I remember watching Team USA on TV when I was younger and my mom saying to me ‘that could be you one day’ – and I mean, here I am… Hanging out with the team and the coaches.”

An avid softball player since she was six years old, Kaydence embraces the game because she meets friends, satisfy her competitive side and have fun sliding and diving on the field. She keeps her battle with a nervous system in perspective, and instead focuses on working hard for what she wants.

Kaydence said, “I don’t let my nervous system disorder define who I am. What matters is if you give your all. I put 110% effort in on the field.”

It was two days of intense softball practices, and the opportunity to be the bat girl. Afterward, she chatted with the team off the field, which she said, “truly made me feel like a part of the family – they are incredible.”

The highlight of Kaydence’s wish experience was when she was presented with an Olympic softball jersey signed by her favorite athlete – Cat Osterman, who also was the one who presented it to her. Kaydence described that grand slam feeling, “That was truly something I never thought would happen. I can’t stop crying because of how happy I am.”
