John wishes to have a puppy

John Finds His Best Bud

At just 7 months of age, John was diagnosed with leukemia. He spent most of the two years that followed in the hospital undergoing intense treatments.

Because of his fragile condition and lack of vaccines at such a young age, he was basically in a bubble with little access to visitors other than his parents and service dogs. The service dog visits were the only thing that would lift his spirits. He found comfort in petting and playing with his canine friends.

"This champ [John] is having a special day. It’s like a reunion with his old friends."
John's father
Now that John is in remission, he wished to have a furry friend of his own.

His parents hung a photo of his future dog beside a countdown calendar so John could see how many days until his wish came true. The anticipation grew as the big day got closer and closer.

On his wish day, John was psyched to meet his sweet mini goldendoodle puppy that he had already named Toby. There were puppy kisses and little boy giggles all around as the two got acquainted.

John's father said, "Fighting cancer is a tough battle and I am blessed to be here with my son. Make-A-Wish brought happiness to John not just today – this little puppy is going to bring a lot of years of happiness.”
