Addie's wish to have a bernedoodle

Addie Meets Glory

When four-year-old Addie was hospitalized while being treated for leukemia at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, she enjoyed the company of a special canine visitor.

The hospital’s therapy dog is a Bernedoodle and Addie ‘lit up’ whenever it came by. Now, after more than two years of chemotherapy and treatments, Addie is excited to welcome a forever friend of her own to love and play with, a Bernedoodle puppy she’ll name “Glory.” Addie will soon be a big sister, and Glory will be a wonderful addition to the family.

“Glory will grow with the family. That’s what we all remember as kids – not just a pet, but a member of the family.”
Addie's father

The anticipation leading up to her wish day was intense. Addie’s father said it was hard to keep her calm and there was a constant asking of the question ‘When’s the puppy coming?’ And then, the moment arrived! Addie was glowing to see her new best friend outside her front door. There was puppy kisses and little girl giggles all around as the pair got acquainted.

Her father said, "A little over two years of hoping and praying and waiting…it’s really a celebration of – it’s over. She’s healthy…it’s a close to one chapter, and a whole new happy chapter to begin next. Thank you (for the wish) is not enough. To my daughter, it means the world.”
