Paisley's Playset Wish

Paisley is a unicorn-loving girly girl with the heart of a fighter.  She stands out from her blue-eyed, blonde hair siblings with her dark eyes and curly brown hair. She lives on a homestead in Montana with her parents, four older siblings, two younger siblings, horses, cows, and other animals. Paisley loves to spend time outside with her siblings and take care of the family’s animals. When tragedy hit, Paisley’s tight-knit family came together to support her in every way they could.

In the fall of 2020, Paisley started to experience headaches.  These headaches grew in intensity, causing her parents to worry.  When they took Paisley to the doctor, they were sent home and advised to monitor her.  Eventually, the headaches escalated to the point where Paisley could not open her right eye.  Her mom took her to the doctor again.  MRIs showed that 5-year-old Paisley had a brain tumor, and she was life-flighted to Salt Lake City for immediate surgery.  In the meantime, her dad was finishing up a shift at work and was not able to get into the helicopter with Paisley and her mom.  He drove overnight to meet them at the hospital.

Recovering from surgery, Paisley spent Thanksgiving in the hospital while her siblings stayed with their grandma. She was able to celebrate Christmas at home, but immediately after, she and her mom flew to Seattle for her proton radiation treatments.  Paisley’s mom wanted her to be able to spend as much time at home with her siblings as possible. Every Sunday, Paisley and her mom would leave for treatment that was scheduled during the weekdays and fly back home for the weekends. After her proton radiation treatments were complete, she went back to Salt Lake City for chemotherapy. During this time, her siblings and parents stayed at their grandfather’s house.  It was important to Paisley’s parents that they kept their family together during this challenging time.

As she was fighting the brain tumor, Paisley found out that she qualified for a wish.  Without missing a beat, Paisley revealed that her wish would be to have a playset! She wanted to have a wish that her siblings could enjoy with her for years to come. Paisley’s parents were so proud of their little firecracker. Despite all she had been through, she was still thinking about how she could help others.

When Paisley’s wish was granted, she was delighted to see her playset decked out with swings, a slide, ladders to climb, and bars to hang from. To top it all off, Paisley’s face lit up when she saw a giant “P” painted on the inside of the playset in her favorite color- pink! She smiled from ear to ear as she and her siblings climbed on her brand-new playset. Months after Paisley’s wish was granted, she and her siblings still go outside to play together, even in freezing temperatures and snow! Paisley’s parents know that it is healthy for Paisley to get fresh air, enjoy the sunshine and playtime with her family.

“It is awesome to see her outside acting like a normal kid, playing, having a great time.  She doesn’t have to think about cancer.”
