About Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana

Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the entirety of the two states and is one of 59 chapters in the country chartered and networked by Make-A-Wish America headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

The organization serves children with critical illnesses and their families. With a dedicated and collaborative staff, team members are mission-driven, motivated, and enjoy contributing to the significant impact of Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana.

The chapter plans to grant 650 high-quality wishes in the next five years. Since its inception, the chapter has granted 2,400 wishes across both states. More than 250 engaged volunteers help the chapter fulfill its mission.

 

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

The South Dakota & Montana chapter of Make-A-Wish, one of the nation’s most recognized nonprofits, seeks a Development Officer to build and grow impactful donor relationships and a culture of philanthropy with an emphasis on major gifts and purposeful calls-to-action to expand the fulfillment of wishes across the region with significant emphasis on supporting the growth within Montana.

The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy building rapport and relating to all kinds of people, be self-motivated and accountable to achieve goals, and have the ability to adapt to a variety of situations. This candidate will have a professional presence and a heart for the mission of Make-A-Wish, fueling a desire to inspire others to action.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have the relevant experience and skills to effectively carry out the key accountabilities of the position based on the Moves Management principles.

Identification & Discovery
Identify and discover potential major gift donors and community partners with the capacity and passion to support the Make-A-Wish mission.

Cultivation
Collaborate with staff, volunteers, donors, and other key stakeholders in order to provide education, information, and inspiration to best articulate the impact of philanthropy on the kids and families we serve. Foster authentic donor relationships with new and existing individuals, corporate, and community partners that will lead to increased giving.  

Solicitation
Grow chapter revenue by successfully asking for and closing appropriately assessed gifts with a focus on major gifts.

Stewardship
Manage an intentional donor stewardship process through genuine appreciation, education, and engagement with existing donors to ultimately retain and grow their commitment to Make-A-Wish.

Requirements
  • Passion for and commitment to the Make-A-Wish Mission
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in fundraising and development, especially in major gifts and/or planned giving
  • Self-Motivated, personally accountable, while collaborating regularly
  • Comfortable diving in and ‘figuring it out’ but also taking direction when appropriate
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent and demonstrated project, time, and priority management skills
Education & Experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a combination of relevant experience
