Unwavering Hearts: Carol's Journey of Granting Wishes and Spreading Joy

“The resilience of these children—they amaze me. Just to be a part of giving them an opportunity to have a whole trip or room makeover or whatever they choose — just something that will allow them to be a kid and just have fun. They’ve been through so much, and they don’t ever give up. They’re so strong, they don’t let their medical condition run their life. If I can be a part of helping them have an awesome wish, it just means everything to me.”

Carol has volunteered her whole life. From serving as a volunteer firefighter to helping children navigate the foster care system to granting wishes for children battling critical illness, Carol loves to give back and extend her heart to those around her. It’s clear to anyone who talks with Carol, though, that her experience volunteering with Make-A-Wish has impacted her in a way she’ll never forget.

In 2017, Carol began volunteering with Make-A-Wish, and since then she has helped grant wishes for bedroom makeovers, four-wheelers, Hawaii vacations, and trips to Disney. “They’re all memorable in their own way,” Carol said.

She reflects on the wish journeys she’s ventured on, explaining that she always looks forward to the wish reveal parties. She loves watching the work of the volunteers and chapter staff culminate into special events for the children.

She strives to share her love for Make-A-Wish with others, encouraging others to volunteer.

If you want to get a reward of smiles, hugs, and seeing children have the best days of their lives, you should do Make-A-Wish

“If you want to make a difference, Make-A-Wish is an organization you want to be a part of.”

“Make-A-Wish means to me: dreams happening, smiles, love, kindness, compassion, and giving back to those who deserve it most. Overall, it’s about loving, and caring, and kindness. It’s all of those things. The reward we get is children smiling. It’s priceless.”
