Michelle's Wishful Mission: A Pediatric Social Worker's Story
michelle

Michelle has served as a social worker for over 20 years. When a position opened at Seattle Children’s Hospital seven years ago, Michelle, seeking an opportunity that would bring her into the world of pediatric care, applied for the position and didn’t look back. “Once I got into pediatric social work, I couldn’t believe how amazing it was.” Michelle now serves as the pediatric social worker for Logan Children’s Specialties Clinic in Kalispell, Montana, where she helps pediatric oncology patients and children with significant and complex medical conditions.

Michelle works closely with Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana staff, serving as the primary contact between the clinic and the Make-A-Wish chapter. Michelle meets with chapter staff monthly to discuss patient referrals and the status of current wishes. Doctors turn to Michelle when they come across a patient who is eligible for a wish, and Michelle is dedicated to meeting with families regularly, during which she shares about the nonprofit. “It’s been really positive when I talk through Make-A-Wish with families,” Michelle says. “They deserve this opportunity to fulfill a wish, given all they’ve been through.”  As she checks in with her patients, Michelle witnesses first-hand the magic and strength a wish can inspire in children and their families.

I’ve been able to see the benefits of children getting their wishes and going through the process as they go through their treatments. It’s been amazing to see how it positively impacts

A proud WishMaker, Michelle loves seeing the result of wishes, listening as patients share the special events they attended or the trips they enjoyed with their family. “Make-A-Wish is an awesome organization. I fully support it. I’m so glad we have them as a resource for our families.”

Michelle hopes to only see Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana continue to grow and reach more eligible children who are waiting for their wish to come true. “It’s an amazing opportunity to be a part of the wish process for a child. It’s an awesome volunteer opportunity, so take advantage of it if you can. It can be life changing.”
