Hope is essential. What COVID-19 means for our chapter

What COVID-19 Means For Our Chapter

2020 has been a year with unprecedented challenges. Make-A-Wish South Carolina has been greatly affected by the pandemic. Here's what COVID-19 means for our chapter and how you can help.

Make-A-Wish’s mission is infused with hope, joy and strength. So, it is with joy and strength that we look forward and know that, together, we can make sure local kids receive the transformational wishes they need. Here's how our chapter has been impacted by COVID-19 and how you can help.

With the health and safety of our wish families as our priority and more than 70% of local wishes involving travel, the effects of the COVID-19 threat have made a direct impact on our mission.

The health and safety of all Make-A-Wish South Carolina constituents, including our wish families and partners, is our priority. At this time, due to current medical and public concerns Make-A-Wish America has made the difficult decision to postpone all wish travel, as well as wish kid participation in all activities and events related to Make-A-Wish that involve large gatherings (e.g. large scale wish granting events, theme parks, etc.) until further notice. Over 1,000 wishes nationwide and 117 wishes through Make-A-Wish South Carolina were immediately impacted with additional wishes being impacted every day.

We will continue to monitor guidance from national and international public health and government organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and U.S. State Department, and are working closely with the national Make-A-Wish Medical Advisory Council, keeping the best interest of the children and families we serve at the center of all policy decisions we make.

How You Can Help

Now more than ever, the world needs the hope of a wish come true. We are preparing to resume wishes at an unprecedented pace. More wishes will need to be granted in a shorter span of time than ever before. We do not want any child to unnecessarily wait even a day.

We know that this crisis is impacting many of our supporters as well, but if you're able to make a gift during this critical time, you'll help ensure these kids receive their wish faster. Your help today will make future wishes possible, and – because of provisions in the recently approved COVID-19 stimulus bill - you could see benefits come tax time.
