At Make-A-Wish, volunteers are at the heart of every wish experience. The time and unique talents our volunteers give to the organization are critical to bringing strength and hope to our wish kids when they need it most.
Under the supervision of the VP of Mission Delivery, the Volunteer Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administrative management of the volunteer program, as well as recruitment and stewardship of our volunteers throughout the state of South Carolina. The volunteer manager will be expected to travel throughout the state meeting with potential volunteers and working with existing volunteers.

A strong desire to lead, inspire, and educate volunteers across the state with the use of creativity, compassion, and often humor, is necessary for the management and growth of the volunteer program.Â
The Make-A-Wish South Carolina headquarters is in Greenville, SC; however, we cover the entire state and are open to a remote work arrangement in one of our top markets (Upstate, Midlands or Lowcountry) for the ideal candidate.
Volunteer Community Engagement
- Recruit, orient and train volunteers to ensure the chapter has an adequate volunteer base throughout the state to meet strategic plan goals for wish granting.
- Maintain regular contact with all volunteers to foster loyalty to our mission and to ensure volunteers feel valued by the chapter.
- Plan and execute inspiring and informative regional and statewide volunteer gatherings.
- Assist volunteers in the planning and facilitation of wish celebrations.
- Guide volunteers and wish managers in securing resources (cash and/or in-kind) to help enhance wishes experiences.
- Lead volunteers in planning regional wish kid parties or gatherings
- Plan and implement wish discovery meetings as a group or individually as needed based on pipeline aging.
- Work collaboratively with chapter leadership and development staff to identify volunteers who may be candidates for deeper engagement with the mission.
Volunteer Administration
- Assign volunteer teams to wishes and provide needed resources for a seamless wish granting experience.
- Maintain volunteer database and file requirements in compliance with Make-A-Wish America standards including conflict of interest statements and background checks.
- Ensure that all volunteer inquiries are addressed in a timely fashion.
- Lead in the development of a robust training, onboarding, and development program
- Connect new volunteers with regional mentors.
- Submit post training surveys to mentor volunteer and trainee.
- Develop and implement plans for year-round volunteer recognition.
- Compile a publish weekly and quarterly communications with all volunteers.
- Prepare volunteer reports for chapter leadership as needed.
- Develop, distribute, and compile results of annual volunteer survey.
- Work with chapter staff to ensure that volunteer special event needs are met.
- Organize and manage volunteer and wish MAW product needs.
- Ensure timely reimbursements of volunteer expenses and donor acknowledgement letters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline driven environment.
- Strong database management experience, preferably Salesforce.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to be outward facing for the chapter and provide great customer service and relationships.
- Team player and a good sense of humor.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Professional Experience
Experience: Â Administrative, People Management, and Customer Service background preferred
