Mauri'Anna was shocked and scared when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.
She lost touch with many friends and had to go on homebound schooling which was hard. But with a fighter's spirit she has continued looking forward and working hard to achieve success. Wish COVID-19 looming, Mauri'Anna wished to have an online shopping spree. She loves to shop, and it was fun to anticipate shopping within the safety of her home. Mauri'Anna was most excited to purchase a MacBook so she can prepare for her AP classes and save more of her classwork on her hard drive. On her 18th birthday, Make-A-Wish supporters fulfilled her wish. Volunteers delivered all the items she had ordered wrapped for an extra special experience. Mauri'Anna said, "A lot of us [young people with cancer] have friends and social lives that we care about, but you must take care of yourself first. The fight is worth it, and in the end, you'll have a story to tell about yourself. It's okay to be down some days, but overall, you must fight!"
I would like people to know that regardless of what age you receive cancer, you have to fight.
