Hubbell Power Systems Makes Donation to Make-A-Wish SC
Aiken-based Hubbell Power Systems helps local children battling critical illnesses.
Make-A-Wish® South Carolina is honored to partner together with Hubbell Power Systems to grant wishes for local children facing a critical illness.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Pete Swales, Hubbell Power Systems’ VP General Manager and Mike Briele, Plant Manager, presented the generous gift of $7,500 to Make-A-Wish® South Carolina at Hubbell Power Systems’ 2024 site safety kickoff meeting in Aiken. Accepting on behalf of Make-A-Wish® South Carolina were wish kid Gatlin Terry and his family, and Kea Wade, Corporate & Community Engagement Manager.
The support from Hubbell Power Systems is pivotal in helping create renewed energy for wish kids, like 4-year-old Gatlin, giving them the strength to fight harder. During the check presentation, Tamara Terry, Gatlin’s mom, shared the impact of their recent wish trip to Walt Disney World. “Thank you for making my son feel like he can have hope and happiness, despite the tough hand he's been dealt in life. It was nice to see him be able to spend a week as just a normal kid, worry free and just simply happy.” As a mom of 6, she shared how inclusive the trip to Walt Disney World was for their entire family. “Thank you for including my other children and making them feel like their experience and feelings matter as well. It’s hard on them all in different ways, and this experience is one that we will all cherish forever.”
“Make-A-Wish South Carolina does so many wonderful things for children in the Aiken area that are going through extremely difficult challenges,” said Pete Swales. “Hundreds of times a year Make-A-Wish South Carolina delivers hope, joy and inspiration for the children, families and communities they serve. Our team at Hubbell Power Systems is honored to partner with Make-A-Wish South Carolina and make a direct impact for children and families in our own community.
Like Gatlin, approximately 400 South Carolina children battling critical illnesses face daily challenges such as trauma, sadness, and isolation. A wish granted to them can be a turning point in their fight against their illness. As long as children are battling life-threatening illnesses, they will need local supporters to help them get through it. With this donation, Hubbell Power Systems is supporting local children in the Aiken area, bringing them hope and joy when they need it most.
“We are so grateful to have Hubbell Power Systems as partners in wish-granting for the tremendous wish kids of South Carolina,” remarked Misty Farmer, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina. “Hubbell’s generous charitable investment in our mission will provide encouragement and healing for many children facing critical illnesses. Their corporate impact will transform lives.”

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH
Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. The chapter receives funding through private donations, individuals, companies, and special events.
