Donor Spotlight: Trudy Billings
Our series continues for #internationalwomensday highlighting women in our Make-A-Wish South Carolina family that we are celebrating today. Trudy Billings resides in the Lowcountry and has been a longtime Make-A-Wish supporter as a Low Country Chi Omega Alumnae.
In 2022, Trudy accepted the nomination for W.I.S.H. Society Honoree and became the Lowcountry's Woman of the Year by fundraising an astounding $25,000 - funding 3 wishes for SC wish kids. When asked what helped lead to her fundraising success she replied, "Believe in your cause.Ā The energy you will exude when you believe in your purpose will propel your fundraising efforts.Ā I believe in the power of a wish.Ā I have witnessed wishes being granted, spoken to wish recipients, and have seen how a wish can change a childās life. I believe."
That belief supercharged Trudy. Committing to fully funding a wish can be an intimidating prospect. However, Trudy faced it with determination and the end in mind. She understood that her efforts would directly impact a child's life.Ā
Trudy's key strategy was leaning on her personal network of family and friends. "Ā I am very proud and thankful for my caring friends and family who embraced Make-A-Wish to help me fund over 3 wishes," she said. "When I reached out to my extended network and shared how a wish can infuse strength and hope in children with critical illnesses, I received overwhelming support from over ninety individuals and businesses across the community."
Trudy encourages others to take the plunge and commit to supporting Make-A-Wish. She acknowledges the work you must put into it but that the worth is greater than the effort. "In regard toĀ fundraising, keep it in perspective. These children are facing much bigger challenges than asking for a donation."
Thank you, Trudy, for advocating restoration of hope through wish experiences for critically ill children. You are a wish hero.
