Donor Spotlight: Carol Panasuk
Today is #internationalwomensday - a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Our Make-A-Wish South Carolina family is fortunate to include many women worthy of celebrating today. Carol Panasuk, who resides in Landrum, S.C. is one of those ladies.
Carol Panasuk serves as a wish granting volunteer, recently celebrating her fifth volunteer anniversary. Carol is on the front-line of wishes, helping children discover their heartfelt wishes. Working with the parents or guardians of a child to help them navigate the ins-and-outs of a wish journey can often be emotionally taxing with copious questions but Carol remains devoted and giving with her time and energy because she understands the value of a wish at the end of the journey for the family.
She understands it so well, that in 2022, Carol became a W.I.S.H. Society Honoree. The Society welcomes women to the elite networking and fundraising Society for their professional achievements and commitment to building compassion and resilience in their communities – embodying the title of Women Inspiring Strength and Hope. After an outstanding season when Carol enlisted the help of her personal network and friends within The Cliffs community, Carol was named Woman of the Year -Upstate 2022 for her philanthropic achievement, fundraising $9,771 which will more than fully-fund a wish for a local child battling a critical illness.
When Carol first took on the role of Honoree, she admits it was a rather intimidating challenge. “I was apprehensive and uncertain I would be able to reach the goal set for me,” she said. “I am pleasantly surprised at how generous people are regarding Make-A-Wish! Children always tug at the heart strings including mine. I realize now that I am capable of reaching out and asking for donations.”
“Hope is essential when battling a serious illness and hope begins with us,” said Misty Farmer, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina. “When a wish comes true, it transforms anxiety into hope. For many wish kids, it marks a turning point in their fight against their illnesses. Carol has made a monumental contribution towards the wellness of children in our community. We are so grateful for all she has done to support our courageous children and we look forward to having her within our Make-A-Wish family for years to come.”
Thank you for being a wish granter, Carol. We’ll thank our lucky stars that you are a light behind the power of wishes.
