The month-long countdown centers around the “Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.” concept to encourage the public to act now to deliver hope to children with critical illnesses.
Statewide, South Carolina (April 1, 2021) – Every year, Make-A-Wish South Carolina, the organization that grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, joins Make-A-Wish chapters and international affiliates in celebrating World Wish Day on April 29, the anniversary of the wish that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish in 1980. As the countdown to World Wish Day begins, Make-A-Wish is launching a bold, fundraising-focused campaign titled, “Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.”
The inspiration for “Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.” stems from the fact that wish families have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic. Feelings of fear and isolation have become commonplace for everyone, but they are often felt deepest by the most vulnerable members of the population, including children with critical illnesses. Now more than ever, wishes can bring hope, joy and a sense of normalcy back into the lives of wish kids and their families. “Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.” empowers individuals and corporations to donate to make life-changing wishes possible for children who are waiting for their wishes to come true.
From now until World Wish Day, Make-A-Wish South Carolina will activate the “Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.” campaign in the following ways:
- Inviting individuals to be Wish Heroes® (help create life-changing hope and become a Wish Hero by fundraising at http://site.wish.org/SCWishHeroes )
- Sharing inspiring messages and motivational stories on social media
- Celebrating volunteers during National Volunteer Week (April 18-24)
- Granting a wish LIVE on World Wish Day (April 29)!
“In these times, hope is essential, and Make-A-Wish South Carolina knows the importance of being able to deliver that hope when it’s needed most,” said Misty Farmer, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina. “There are many things this year that have felt out of our control, but giving now to grant wishes is something we can all choose to do that can have a life-changing impact on wish kids and their families.”
Between now and World Wish Day, several Make-A-Wish national sponsors will showcase their support for the wish-granting organization, including Macy’s, Build-A-Bear Foundation, City Electric Supply, FabFitFun, Keebler, Marquis®, Topgolf and WWE.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH
Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. The chapter receives funding through private donations, individuals, companies, and special events.
