Jamie's Wish

10-year-old Jamie battles a rare genetic disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disorder that causes damage in muscles and gradually weakens them. This prevents Jamie from participating in certain activities, such as riding a bike, playing sports, and walking long distances. Eventually, he will need to use a wheelchair.

Despite all this, Jamie keeps his head held high. His mother Carrie shared, “Jamie stays positive through it all and we do the best we can. He does sometimes get down and frustrated with not being able to do everything he wants to, but we try to remain positive and do what he likes to do - swimming, be outside and build LEGO sets!”

Building LEGO sets has been Jamie’s favorite activity since he was a toddler. When he found out that he was getting a wish, he knew instantly that he wanted a LEGOLAND shopping spree. Carrie said, “We had no idea what that would even look like or how it would happen, but the team at Make-A-Wish outdid themselves with the planning process and the outcome was amazing.”

Jamie’s special wish experience took place at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Philadelphia.

"Jamie has said many, many times that his wish came true and he is so glad that’s what he chose to do and that it was all his own idea. He will never forget wish day!"

He had the opportunity to select and take home several new LEGO sets, watch a 3D LEGO movie, and even had a private session with the Master Builder.

This day was extra special because it took place on April 29; World Wish Day and the 41st anniversary of Make-A-Wish America.

He had an incredible time during his shopping spree, his Mom explained, “Jamie has said many, many times that his wish came true and he is so glad that’s what he chose to do and that it was all his own idea. He has built a few sets and it’s so nice to see him enjoying them daily. He will never forget wish day! We could never say thank you enough to the Make-A-Wish team. What they did was unbelievable, and we are beyond grateful.”
