Summary

The Senior Director of Development is responsible for leading Make-A-Wish Oklahoma to meet or exceed its growth objectives. As the senior fundraising strategist, you will set the vision for the chapter to grow and diversify its funding base while maintaining a frontline fundraising role. The Senior Director of Development manages all aspects of the organization’s fundraising plans including Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Giving, Donor Recognition and Stewardship, Major and Planned Giving, Special Event Fundraising, Research and Prospect Management. A member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Senior Director of Development will work closely with members of SLT to generate support for Make-A-Wish. 

Responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goal 
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward a personal portfolio of donors 
  • Network with high-net-worth individuals and the corporate, foundation, government, business and nonprofit circles to promote Make-A-Wish awareness 
  • Lead strategic vision for fund development. Develops, manages and executes an annual strategic plan designed to raise funds through new and existing revenue sources – including annual giving, major giving, board giving, multi-year pledge/sustained giving, planned giving, workplace/school giving (KFWK), endowment growth, internal and external events, develops and implements donor recognition and stewardship plans 
  • Develops, manages and oversees the execution of the comprehensive chapter communications/marketing plan including all print, electronic and digital efforts to inform and engage the constituents of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma and the community. Directs and prepares the President & CEO for the same when applicable. 
  • Participates on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to develop and implement short and long-term strategic initiatives 
  • Recruits, trains, evaluates and provides leadership and direction for the development team
  • Identifies and solicits resources from the Board, volunteer corps, Wish families, staff and other stakeholders to help support annual and long term strategic plans; develops a plan for these stakeholders and works with the President & CEO to solicit cash and in-kind donations 
  • Develops and executes a fundraising plan for the Board and volunteer corps and works with the Board and President/CEO to plan and manage Board fundraising activities 
  • Oversees the administration, preparation and submission of grants, proposals and their deadlines 
  • Develops and closely monitors annual and event budgets 
  • Develops and submits month-end reports outlining gains and weekly activity in the weekly report 
  • Works closely with the Director of Operations to ensure that financial records regarding fundraising activity and events are accurate 
  • Closely monitors donor tracking and acknowledgement process and ensures that donors are properly and appropriately acknowledged at every level 
  • With the President & CEO, identifies and helps recruit corporate, community and civic leaders, celebrities, etc. to be potential board members, involved in fund-raising activities and potential honorees of Make-A-Wish Oklahoma 
  • Fully understands and ensures that fundraising technology is being used efficiently and effectively 
  • Serves as designated staff lead and liaison for the Board Development Committee 
  • Ensures that fund-raising industry standards are met 
  • Additional duties as assigned by the President & CEO 
Requirements
  • Proven experience in cultivating donors, prospects, and managing a development program 
  • Strong experience leading, motivating and managing a staff. Readily delegates, coaches, empowers and holds others accountable. An effective team leader and team player 
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and business management and supervision. Ability to provide leadership to peers and subordinate staff 
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and initiatives 
  • Must be extremely organized, work well under pressure and have the ability to meet deadlines 
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and be results-oriented 
  • Must have strong oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with board members, donors, staff and volunteers. Ability to speak before small and large groups of people 
  • Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets 
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgement and exercise confidentiality 
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and a passion for the work for the Make-A-Wish Foundation
  • Must be competent in the use of computers and be literate in Microsoft and donor software applications. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management software. Knowledge or experience with Salesforce or Blackbaud Raisers Edge a plus 
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or closely related field. Advanced degree a plus 
  • Certifications: CFRE preferred 
  • 7-10 years of progressive, innovative, strategic, proven fundraising experience
