Ricky's Wish for an Outdoor Space
Ricky wished to have an outdoor space that is safe from bugs to enjoy time with his friends and family. Here in Maine, we have so many beautiful months to spend time outside and it was important to his family that he could experience this with them. From campfires to cookouts and watching sunsets, his family loves spending time outside and wanted him to have the best possible experience along with them. His wish came true when his very own wheelchair-accessible gazebo was built in his backyard.
When Ricky came home to this space all his own, he was greeted by family with some wonderful sensory toys, his favorite snacks, and of course the screened-in gazebo. He also had a special chair and bench that swing, making it a very special space for him. Ricky loves to be in a swing!
Ricky’s mom Tara has told us how important this space has been for their family to spend time together outside.
While we have all navigated the pandemic as best we can, we have found that this time can be very isolating for wish kids. Having a safe space outside to interact with friends and family has been so important, and this gazebo offers that and more to Ricky and his loved ones.
