Melanie walked out the front door with her parents, around the side of their house and followed as dad opened the tall wooden gate to their backyard.
“AHHHHH,” the 5-year-old exclaimed as she saw her Make-A-Wish Northeast New York wish for the first time: A massive pink playhouse.
This was not just any playhouse. It met her specifications, down to the twinkling lights, kitchen accessories, slide and loft. And, of course, it had to be pink.
“Her whole bedroom is pink – every inch of it except for the carpet,” wish mom Ashley said. “She got the [pink] playhouse idea, and she was all over it.”
Melanie immediately went inside and began exploring all the kitchen accessories. “You can pretend,” she said. The reveal came as she was undergoing treatment for leukemia.
“It’s a good day for her. She doesn’t always have a lot of them,” the wish mom said. “It’s something exciting for her to look forward to and be happy about.
“She is a strong little girl. She is still in the house every day with a smile on her face.”
Except this day. Melanie was in her own house – but still had a smile on her face.
“She is going to be in it every day,” wish mom Ashley said.
Melissa Holly, Trisha Bobowski and Kaleena Castiglione served as the wish granters.
