Emersyn's Wish to See Butterflies & Beaches
The doctors explained to Emersyn’s parents that A-T is comparable to having the same symptoms as cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy in one disorder combined with a weaken immune system and high risk for cancer. At average, kids are in a wheelchair by ten and life expectancy is late teens to early 20’s.
Emersyn was diagnosed at the age of two and, as expected, it has been a whirlwind for her family. She started first grade in the fall before she was referred to Make-A-Wish Maine. With A-T being a progressive disorder, it marked her seventh year to be the hardest yet. Emersyn lost once mastered skills such as skipping in a short matter of six months.
With Emersyn’s quick progression in such a short period of time, her parents began thinking of things they could do with her and memories they could make for her while she was still mobile.
