Make-A-Wish® Iowa Announces New President & CEO

Urbandale, Iowa – On Monday, March 22, 2021, Make-A-Wish® Iowa announced that the Board of Directors has selected Sara Kurovski as its new President & Chief Executive Officer.  

Kurovski is an accomplished leader, serving two terms as the mayor of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. She also is well acquainted with hands-on, nonprofit experience and comes to Make-A-Wish Iowa from United Way of Central Iowa as the Tocqueville Society Director. During her over five years at United Way, she worked with local philanthropic leaders to create long-lasting change through philanthropic giving, in the community.  

“I am ecstatic to welcome Sara,” said Make-A-Wish Iowa Board Chair David Farnsworth. “This is a critical time for our organization and Sara’s understanding of community, fundraising abilities and innovation will propel our organization forward. We are fortunate to have someone with her passion and experience lead Make-A-Wish Iowa’s mission.” 

Previously, she held positions at Metro Waste Authority as Operations Program Manager and Kum & Go as Manager of Sustainability. Kurovski is a graduate of Truman State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and Drake University with a Master’s in Public Administration. Kurovski has served on numerous boards and in leadership positions. She was recognized by the Business Record in 2015 as a member of 40 under 40 and that also as the Emerging Woman of Influence in the same year.
