Oakle's Wish

S’more Time for Memories

Oakle, an adventurous four-year-old from Pine Bluffs, is a tough, tenacious young boy who’s not letting anything stand between him and a roaring campfire. Along with his pursuit of making the perfect s’more, Oakle loves spending time outside with his family, which includes his three siblings. Despite the unpredictability of life outdoors, Oakle loves anticipating what’s to come. Little did he know he would be surprised with a new camper granted by Make-A-Wish Wyoming.

“He’s got an outstanding personality that you don’t see in most four-year-olds. He likes to predict what’s going to happen next in most circumstances,” says Oakle’s mom, Brooklin.

What Oakle’s family could not predict was a frightening cancer diagnosis at such a young age. In February 2023, when Oakle was just 17 months old, he was diagnosed with adrenal cortical carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer of the adrenal glands. By November 2023, Oakle’s family learned the cancer was stage four and had already metastasized beyond the adrenal glands.

“Oakle underwent two surgeries. The first one was in March of 2023, shortly after his diagnosis, to remove the tumor from his left adrenal gland, and the second surgery was in December of 2023 to remove a tumor from his right lung,” shares Brooklin.

After recovering from his surgeries, Oakle and his family knew it was time to decide on his wish: something that fostered family time and reflected his love of the outdoors. After Oakle’s battle with cancer, his mom knew that traveling for a wish would be difficult. She also knew that Oakle loves being outside exploring, and his favorite thing ever is roasting marshmallows over the campfire.

Thus, a wish for a camper was born!

“A camper was the perfect wish for Oakle. It doesn’t just provide a memory, but something we can enjoy long term for years to come,” says Brooklin.

Oakle's wish was granted in the fall of 2025, thanks in part to the support from Make-A-Wish Wyoming’s 2025 Community Partner of the Year, Smith RV, who helped make this wish possible. The camper came fully equipped with camping essentials, including chairs, yard games, binoculars, and s’mores fixings. It also features an outdoor grill and a mini fridge, so the family can continue to enjoy the outdoors while the hot dogs cook.

“The wish has created a home away from home that’s not a hotel or hospital, a home on wheels. A way for our family to get out and enjoy nature, a way to bond wherever the wheels can take us,” says Brooklin.

Oakle and his family have already enjoyed several adventures on wheels. They’ve packed up the camper and headed to Keyhole to spend time in the trees and by the water. Together, they roasted hot dogs over the fire, went on walks to gather firewood, and simply enjoyed being surrounded by Wyoming’s nature.

"Make-A-Wish is an awesome thing, and I'm not biased by any means, but the way kids light up and the tears it brings and how the parents look up at them when they're shining like the little star they are, it's nothing but a blessing," Brooklin shares.

Now, with s'mores fixings packed away in the camper and new binoculars in hand, Oakle and his family are ready for the many wilderness adventures ahead. You can help other Wyoming kids, like Oakle, who are battling critical illnesses, find adventure and hope through a wish by donating today.
