Make-A-Wish South Carolina Elects Judy Lofurno to Board of Directors

“Wish mom” and human resources leader to help fuel more wish journeys across the state

GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 2, 2025) — Make-A-Wish® South Carolina announced the election of Judy Lofurno, Director of Human Resources at Brio Medical, PC (Brio Aesthetics and Brio Primary Care), to its Board of Directors. A seasoned HR executive and the mother of a wish kid alum, Lofurno brings a mission-first perspective shaped by her family’s own wish journey.

Lofurno’s connection to Make-A-Wish began in 2015 when her daughter Liz faced lymphoma at age 15. During months of treatment and uncertainty, the wish process became a beacon of hope that helped Liz look forward again. Her wish took the family to the British Virgin Islands in 2016, where simple, joyful moments together on a small catamaran—sunrise coffees, paddleboarding, snorkeling, exploring quiet coves—reconnected them after a difficult year. That experience did more than create happy memories; it restored confidence and helped Liz see a future she wanted to pursue.

The ripple effect of that wish continues today. Inspired by the care and hope she received, Liz is now a fourth-year medical student preparing for a career in pediatric oncology. She actively volunteers with Make-A-Wish South Carolina, shares her story with families and supporters, helps grant wishes, and has joined the Fall 2025 Make-A-Wish South Carolina Trailblaze Challenge team to raise funds through a 28.3-mile hike. Lofurno cites her daughter’s journey and ongoing service as the reason she is determined to expand access to wishes for more South Carolina children.

Professionally, Lofurno brings more than 30 years of human resources leadership, with strengths in people-first culture, team development, and organizational growth. She has served on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Board of Trustees and is a two-time Make-A-Wish South Carolina W.I.S.H. (Women Inspiring Strength & Hope) Society honoree, experience that deepens her fundraising, advocacy, and ambassadorial work for the mission.

“Judy pairs board-level leadership with the lived experience of a wish mom,” said Misty Farmer, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina. “She insight has seen how a wish can restore hope, joy, and strength for an entire family. That, combined with her people-centered leadership, will help us reach more kids when they need it most.”

“I watched my daughter regain her sense of future through her wish, and our family felt whole again,” said Judy Lofurno. “I am honored to serve on this board, to help fund more wishes, grow awareness, and invite more people to get involved, so more South Carolina kids can experience the power of a wish journey.”
