Poseidon's wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort
We all knew we were literally living a once-in-a-lifetime, dream come true opportunity

Poseidons most favorite moments without a doubt were the characters he met on his wish.
Poseidon, from Onslow County, is a super intelligent boy with a huge heart. He absolutely loves to laugh and finds comedy in the mundane and daily happenings in life. His smile lights up the room and he shares it freely!
It hasn't been an easy road for him, though. Poseidon was born with a less then 5% chance of survival diagnosed with the fetal condition non-immune hydrops fetalis. His diagnosis means he is non-verbal, non-mobile, and relies on a g-tube for his nutrition. Poseidon's life is affected in every single way by his diagnoses, but it is not defined by them.
Daily life for Poseidon consists of a detailed medication schedule and therapy or medical appointments. He absolutely LOVES going outside for walks, listening and singing along to music, petting his sweet dog Max, and any chance he has to be at the beach or pool. But he gets most excited about anything Disney, Dr. Seuss, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Christmas!

Poseidon and his family posing together for a special family photo
When the family found out that Poseidon qualified for a wish, the decision on what it would be was an easy one - to go to Walt Disney World® Resort!
The family met with their Make-A-Wish wish granting volunteers and planning began to create a customized experience for a special young man! Poseidon and his family stayed at Give Kids The World Village - a terrific partner of Make-A-Wish - that made sure they were cared for and had everything they needed.
Hear about the power of a wish from Poseidon's mom Colleen:
"Poseidon's most favorite moments without a doubt were the characters. He has been best friends with Mickey and Minnie since he was a baby! They’ve been through all his medical procedures and hospitalizations with him. They are on everything in his room, stuffys all in his bed and even on his wheelchair. When he met Mickey he was in pure shock; when he met Minnie he was absolutely so loving to her. So many people stood and watched him with huge smiles on their faces.
Give Kids The World for a family like ours was truly the highlight of the trip for us. Having multiple handicapped children and Poseidon's severe issues, it became our happy place. I don’t think I could ever convey the absolute heaven we felt we were in.
From the safety of it for one of our eloping kids, to the complete accessibility for the two in wheelchairs, and the absolutely amazing people and activities, we were in heaven. We have never had such complete handicapped access to everything. It felt so amazing.
Our family is uniquely made. Due to our complexity, the wish trip was our first official family vacation and the first time leaving the state of NC for some of our family. Financial and medical issues made traveling impossible until Poseidon's Make-A-Wish trip. For a family like ours, words will completely fail to accurately describe the emotions, gratitude, and pure joy our family felt having this experience and trip with Poseidon. We all knew we were literally living a once-in-a-lifetime, dream-come-true opportunity and we absolutely absorbed every single second of it.
Our family feels as if no one could ever be more grateful than we are.

I’m a single mom who has been given some of life’s most complex challenges. I am blessed to have a large family of wonderful children. My children are literally the air I breathe. I would never be able to provide my children with any of the experiences we were able to have without Make-A-Wish and Give Kids The World.
I do know words are not enough to convey what this trip meant for Poseidon and the entire family. I will try the best I can. During our trip there were these moments. Not the kind you would expect. Not about items, or parks or places even. The moments that are completely raw and completely formed from a journey only parents in my shoes could understand. The peace brought in a moment of time, sitting alone, quietly, in a Chapel next to the child you have been on a medical battlefield trying to save. The moment you see all your children quietly looking up with tears streaming down their faces, viewing your son’s star shining on the ceiling of a castle surrounded by so many other beautiful stars of families you know absolutely understand.
The ability to get away from all of the daily struggles and to be able to do it together. Those moments and all those feelings are truly what makes the Make-A-Wish trip so memorable and amazing."
