This Was the Wish He Was Looking For

If ever there was a place synonymous with making dreams (and wishes) come true, it’s Walt Disney World® Resort. With destinations that include the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there’s fun and excitement around every corner and down every street.

Fifteen-year-old Ky-Mel Dorsey’s wish began the moment he and his family were picked up at their house and driven to the airport to board their flight from Albany, New York, to Orlando, Florida. Ky-Mel's Wish Trip to Disney World

And as soon as they passed through the entrance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Ky-Mel knew his adventure was going to be out of this world—because he was headed to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The only question was, where exactly? Luckily, for Ky-Mel, a devoted Star Wars fan, the Force led them straight to Oga’s Cantina.

Revered by bounty hunters, rogue traders, and weary travelers alike, the bill of fare at this space-age establishment includes everything from Reythan Crackers with Moss Mousse to Spiced Wroshyr Pods and the galaxy-famous Batuu Wilds Bounty. And of course, no meal is complete unless paired with a refreshing glass of Blue Bantha or Jabba Juice.

Refreshed and recharged, it was time for Ky-Mel to embark on his first mission of the day, and it was an important one for this young Jedi, a rite of passage, really. Ky-Mel made for Savi’s Workshop, where under the watchful guidance of the “Gatherers,” he and his companion Noah set about constructing their very own lightsabers. Savi’s Workshop provides parts and pieces from the far reaches of the galaxy, the boys provided their imaginations, and once their lightsabers were complete, they brought them to life with the power of Kyber Krystals!

But what’s a Jedi without a sidekick? Luke Skywalker had R2-D2 and C-3PO, X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron had BB-8. And now it was Ky-Mel and Noah’s turn to create theirs. With their newly constructed lightsabers at their sides, Ky-Mel and Noah entered the Droid Depot, and built their own personal droids. And once completed to their satisfaction, they each installed a unique personality chip, to make their droids truly one-of-a-kind.

And that was only the first day!

For the remainder of their magical adventure, Ky-Mel and his family explored and experienced the myriad attractions Walt Disney World® Resort has to offer. It was an unforgettable combination of exhilaration, excitement, and of course, endless smiles.
With his new lightsaber in hand and trusty droid by his side, we’re certain Ky-Mel is ready to meet any challenge with the strength and bravery of a true Jedi.

We want to extend a special thank you to our donors, supporters, and Give Kids the World Village for helping make Ky-Mel’s wish come true.
