Wyatt Goes to Work

Wyatt wished for a game room makeover. But first he got to live the dream of many an 8-year-old, and operate heavy construction equipment.

Wyatt’s Make-A-Wish Northeast New York wish experience included the dream of many an 8-year-old — and that part wasn’t even his wish!

Wyatt wished for a game room makeover. But in order to install it as a surprise, his parents Mark and Madison had to get him out of the house.

So Wyatt’s dad brought the 8-year-old to a Slingerlands site being worked by BBL Construction Services. Workers there had previously befriended the boy with gifts, but Wyatt was stunned when he was not only given a tour of the heavy equipment on site, but invited to take some for a (supervised) spin!

“This is so much fun … really, really fun,” he said, after taking a turn in a paver, payloader and dump truck, and before he climbed into a bulldozer.

“This is every wish kid’s dream, what Wyatt is experiencing today,” Make-A-Wish Northeast New York CEO William C. Trigg said, watching Wyatt move from rig to rig. “This is not even his wish: This is what is called a wish enhancement. … This is absolutely incredible.”

Linda and Michael Doyle served as the wish granters.

If there were anyone having as much fun as Wyatt on the site, it was the construction crew from BBL.

“This thing has been a lot of fun. We have looked forward to him getting here,” said Superintendent Kevin Golas. “Look at the look on his face: That tells it all.”

Dad Mark was equally thrilled.

“It’s every grown man’s dream, let alone a kid,” Mark said, thanking Best Buy for the game room makeover, BBL and Make-A-Wish.

After the site visit then lunch, Wyatt was surprised yet one more time when he got home: With his wish.

"Holy moley! Oh, wow," he said walking into his game room. "This looks insane."

Yep, you can say Wyatt had a good day at work, and at home.
