Nora Sullivan

Wish Kid, Nora

This holiday season, Nora’s family will be celebrating more than just being back together as a family, they will be celebrating her being cancer-free.

In early December 2019, Nora's family was busy decorating the house for Christmas and enjoying time together as a family. Nora woke up one night at 3:00 am because her leg was hurting. She crawled into bed with her parents until morning. She stayed home from school the next day and her dad took her to the doctor. After going to the doctor and numerous test being run, Nora was diagnosed with leukemia on December 12, 2019. Her diagnosis shocked her entire family. Nora’s family had planned to celebrate the holiday season together with loved ones, but everything got pushed aside once they received the life changing news. Nora said the medicine she received made her feel really sick and her cat Polly would snuggle with her a lot of times.

Nora and sisters

Her family’s sole focus was not on Christmas, but getting Nora well. Nora began chemotherapy treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The strain and toll of going back and forth each week to the hospital made it very hard on her and her family. Nora’s parents knew that isolating her from her sisters and friends for weeks at a time would be difficult, but they had no other choice. Nora’s treatments became the new norm for her family. During a trip back home to see family, Nora’s uncle asked her if she would be interested in being referred to Make-A-Wish for a wish. Nora loved the idea and the excitement and joy of receiving a wish gave her much to look forward to. Once back home, Nora was able to decide on a wish….to have a treehouse! Nora decided that she wanted to have her very outdoor space where she can relax and hang out with her sisters and all of her pets, especially Polly!
