Wish Kid, Jordyn

Jordyn Reed is a bright, 15-year-old girl from Byram, MS. Jordyn was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that begins in the cells that form bones, in January 2020.

Before Jordyn’s diagnosis, she was a perfectly healthy teenager and loved to dance. She was a cheerleader, active in school, and said that life was “normal.” Leading up to her diagnosis, Jordyn first started experiencing issues in the Summer of 2019 that felt like a “growing pain,” that she nor her family thought much of. Eventually, it became more difficult for her to walk, and she noticed a mass on her leg, which alerted her family to take her to the hospital. That is when the doctors diagnosed Jordyn with Osteosarcoma.

Jordyn said that she didn’t know how to describe the feeling of being told that she had cancer. She said that she began to wonder “why” and “how.”

Jordyn described her symptoms as difficult, as she had trouble eating and eventually her cancer diagnosis led to her having to have her leg amputated.

During Jordyn’s cancer journey, Make-A-Wish Mississippi was brought into the picture. Jordyn’s one true wish was to go to Hawaii with her family. She said that “it has always been her dream to go to Hawaii” since she was little because it is so beautiful.

In March of 2022, Jordyn’s wish finally came true! Make-A-Wish Mississippi donor, Richard Schwartz & Associates, helped make Jordyn’s wish a reality. The Richard Schwartz & Associates team hosted a special wish reveal for Jordyn to send her off to Hawaii in style! Their entire team, Make-A-Wish Mississippi staff, and Jordyn and her family attended a special send off party. The following week, the Reed’s were off to Hawaii for a week of relaxation, ziplining, and swimming with dolphins.

Jordyn now says that her trip was “the best thing ever for everyone” and was a first-time trip for everyone in her family.

Jordyn describes her life now as “still a work in progress,” but that it is “way better than where it was 2 years ago when she was diagnosed.” Although Jordyn lost her leg and has had to learn to work with a prosthesis, which has presented challenging, Jordyn never lets her hurdles bring her down and approaches each day with a positive attitude and outlook on life ahead!
