“It was amazing!!!!!!!!” wrote Shavar’s mom, Marie. “Wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone was so wonderful with the whole family.”

Shavar’s wish to go to the set of Sesame Street to meet the characters and sit on the steps led to many other fun activities for the family once they made their way to New York City. The morning before their appointment at Sesame Street, they decided to watch the live filming of the Today Show where NBC’s Al Roker spoke to Shavar on air about his wish! While walking around the city in their Make-A-Wish t-shirts, they even toured a few fire stations where Shavar got to ride on an engine.

The kids were so well-behaved and had such a good time that their faces hurt from smiling!

Prior to their trip to NYC, Wish Granters planned a celebration for Shavar at his school where his classmates were able to join in the fun of the Make-A-Wish experience.

Shavar’s brother, Connor, said that if any changes were made to the name of Make-A-Wish, it could be renamed “Making Memories for Life."

Wish granters were overjoyed to hear the stories from the trip.

“This family really touched us,” said volunteer wish granter Noreen. “They are so appreciative and caring. Like all of the families we work with, they are very special people. What a privilege it is to be part of making wishes come true.”

Though Shavar’s wish was a dream for this 6-year-old boy, his entire family felt the joy.

“Shavar’s wish was everyone’s wish,” said his oldest sister, Katie.
