Liam's Wish for a Truck-Themed Playset

Liam’s mom Kayla describes Liam as “very outgoing, always happy, very energetic,” who “always has a smile on his face.” Like most four-year-old boys, Liam has a love of trucks. This love brought him to his special wish choice: I wish to have a truck-themed playset!

Liam was diagnosed with leukemia after his mom noticed he was favoring one leg. In no time, Liam was receiving blood transfusions and chemo and his family was thrown into a world of uncertainty full of  appointments and treatment schedules.

“It was a super emotional ride and not knowing what was going on with your child, I honestly can’t explain the emotion that I had,” Kayla explained.

When Liam’s nurse brought up referring him to Make-A-Wish, Liam and his family were excited to have the happy distraction.

I was very excited for Liam because I feel like he’s lost a lot of his childhood…so I am glad that we were able to have this experience.

On his wish day, Liam headed to his grandmother’s house to play and swim in her pool. This was a good distraction and allowed the team at Make-A-Wish to install the playset. While the playset was being completed and decorated, a truck parade was put on for Liam and his family. Roughly thirty vehicles ranging from a motorcycles all the way up to dump trucks and a swat vehicle from the Lewiston Police Department were in the parade.

“He was so excited and pointed out all the vehicles. And I was getting emotional too just seeing him so happy,” Kayla recounted. Liam is very close to his brother, so the parade was a wonderful experience for them both to share.

Liam lit up when the construction vehicles drove by and especially when it ended with the “long car”—which is what he called his limo. He put his hands over his mouth in astonishment when he was told that he got to ride in it!

When Liam returned home, he and his brother ran to the playset as fast as they could. Liam loved every part of the playset, but a favorite of his was going down the twirly slide on his belly face first!
